Our Guidelines for videoing your test:

  1. You will need the assistance of a friend or videographer to video your test for you.
  2. Your test should be filmed in a grass or sand arena, as level as possible.
  3. No other horses are permitted inside the arena whilst the competitor is filming their test.
  4. The arena should be clearly visible without any obstructions.
  5. We recommend that the sun should be behind the videographer for the best possible view of your horse.
  6. Any video recording device may be used, but if you are using a mobile phone please be sure to hold the phone sideways (landscape) for the best results.
  7. A tripod will provide the most steady recording, although this is not essential.
  8. During the test, try and keep zooming to a minimum. Where you may need to zoom if the horse is at the far side of the arena please ensure this does not interfere with the flow of movement.
  9. All sound must be recorded, please do not mute sound in the video.
  10. Unfortunately your trainer or coach may not provide additional assistance during your test, and you may be eliminated if the judge perceives any outside arena assistance.
  11. The recording must be done in one take and may not consist of cut and paste or edited versions joined together. Videos that are edited or enhanced in any way will result in elimination.
  12. All classes, except for in hand classes, will require two videos. The first video should include a ridden test of your design. The second video must show your horse’s conformation.
  13. In hand classes will require only a Conformation video.
  14. Conformation videos must be done in one take, and must start at the front of the horse, clearly showing the whole horse, as well as the horses legs, the video must then move to show the horse from the side and then the video needs to show the horse from behind. Finally, the video must show the horse walking off and trotting back to the camera, all in one take. A triangle formation is recommended with a good side view showing trot steps on the long side.
  15. For ridden classes, you may film your free test of your own design and layout. Be sure to film in one take only, and your video should end with a salute to your judge.
  16. Remember – you can send us your best video!
  17. Once your video is done, upload the video to our website at www.showingonline.co.za, please be sure to name the video carefully with your horse’s name.
  18. You may only use your video to enter one class and one show, where a video is duplicated to another entry this will result in elimination.
  19. For any questions or clarification please see our online video guide on our website & social media pages or email hello@showingonline.co.za
